Lung Cancer
Genomics Educational Resources
Precision medicine, underpinned by high-quality pathology and genomics, is transforming the lung cancer care pathway enabling identification of clinically relevant driver mutations, thereby guiding the selection of possible targeted treatment options.1
Genomic testing is one of the most effective methods for accurately and swiftly identifying key mutation drivers.1
This page provides different educational resources on the importance of genomic testing, the mutation landscape in NSCLC and the interpretation of genomic test reports.
From Biopsy to Breakthrough: Navigating tissue challenges and emerging genomic solutions
BTOG 2026 Sponsored Symposium Videos
This symposium has been divided into 3 videos, whereby Professor Navani, Dr. Dorward and Dr. Meissner address key challenges in obtaining adequate tissue biopsies for diagnosis and molecular testing, explore the evolving role of circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA), and highlight the importance of MDT collaboration throughout the lung cancer care pathway.
This educational symposium was organised and funded by Boehringer Ingelheim. Boehringer provided financial support for the BTOG conference, but apart from this symposium had no further input into the conference agenda. This symposium was recorded in March 2026.
Lung Cancer Pathway: Tissue Access and Procedural Strategy
This video explores strategies for tissue acquisition, focusing on procedural decision‑making to support accurate staging and enable biomarker testing in lung cancer.
Presented from the perspective of a respiratory physician
Lung Cancer Pathway: Making the Most of Small Biopsy Specimens
This video explores how small biopsy specimens can be optimised within the pathology workflow to deliver reliable diagnosis and molecular results in lung cancer.
Presented from the perspective of a thoracic pathologist
Lung Cancer Pathway: The Role of Liquid Biopsy
This video explores the role of circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) in accelerating molecular profiling and its potential to shorten the pathway from diagnosis to treatment in lung cancer.
Presented from the perspective of a medical oncologist
Case Studies: From Pathologist to Patient
BTOG 2025 Sponsored Symposium Videos
The following case studies have been taken from the Boehringer Ingelheim Sponsored symposium 'From Pathologist to Patient: Navigating Molecular Testing in Lung Cancer Care' recorded at BTOG 2025.
The videos split the symposium into 3 case studies, where Dr. Adam Januszewski PhD MRCP (Onc), Consultant Thoracic Oncologist at Barts Cancer Centre and Dr. Alex Haragan PhD FRCPath, Consultant Histopathologist at Royal Liverpool University hospitals discuss genomic science providing valuable insights into interpreting genetic test reports and the implications for patient management in lung cancer clinical practice.
This educational symposium was organised and funded by Boehringer Ingelheim. Boehringer provided financial support for the BTOG conference but apart from this symposium had no further input into the conference agenda. This symposium was recorded in March 2025.
From pathologist to patient: Case study 1
This video explores a case where a male, never-smoker with a past medical history of asthma presents with a cough and back pain.
From pathologist to patient: Case study 2
This video explores a case where a female smoker with a past history of psoriasis presents with a cough and abdominal pain.
From pathologist to patient: Case study 3
This video explores a case where a female never-smoker with no past medical presents with a cough and weight loss.
